Monadnock Paper Mills Achieves Platinum Rating in EcoVadis Corporate Social Responsibility Assessment, Joining Top 1% of Global Sustainability Leaders

December 2, 2025 Industry, News Releases, Printing, Paper & Packaging, Public Relations, Services, Sustainability & ESG

Second consecutive Platinum rating reflects a higher EcoVadis score and measurable sustainability progress

Monadnock Paper Mills, Inc., the oldest continuously operating paper mill in the United States, has earned a Platinum rating in the EcoVadis Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) assessment. The recognition places Monadnock among the top 1% of more than 90,000 companies evaluated worldwide. This marks the company’s second consecutive Platinum rating and reflects a six-point improvement over its 2024 score, demonstrating measurable leadership in sustainability performance.

EcoVadis, a trusted independent global provider of business sustainability ratings, awarded Monadnock an overall score of 89/100 for 2025, citing significant progress in environmental impact, labor and human rights, ethical governance, and sustainable procurement. The improvement underscores Monadnock’s approach to sustainability as a long-term operational strategy rather than a marketing initiative, from carbon-neutral operations powered by 100% renewable wind energy to responsible fiber sourcing certified by the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC® C018866).

“Sustainability is not a cost center, it’s how we build a resilient business,” said Andrew Manns, CEO of Monadnock Paper Mills. “Improving our Platinum score reflects disciplined work across our operations to reduce risk, strengthen our supply chain, and invest in our people. Sustainability is how we create long-term value for our customers, employees, and community.”

Key Drivers Behind Monadnock’s Platinum Improvement

  • Operational Efficiency & Environmental Risk Reduction: The assessment recognized Monadnock’s quantifiable reductions in greenhouse gas emissions, expanding renewable-energy utilization, and enhanced waste and water management targets through ISO 14001 continuous improvement systems—directly contributing to operational stability and cost efficiency.
  • Investment in Workforce Development & Retention: Higher scores in labor and human rights reflect strengthened workplace safety programs, measurable professional development goals, and career mobility initiatives designed to reduce turnover and build skilled manufacturing talent in a competitive market.
  • Governance Practices that Protect Stakeholders: Monadnock’s upgraded whistleblower and stakeholder reporting system, along with strict fraud, data security, and anti-corruption policies, was cited as best practices for lowering organizational risk and protecting business continuity.
  • Supply Chain Accountability & Value Protection: The company expanded supplier expectations to include environmental and social criteria directly into contracts and evaluations. Strengthened supplier transparency reinforces responsible fiber sourcing and reduces exposure to sourcing risks that affect production and brand reputation.

Monadnock will continue to invest in measurable improvements, particularly life-cycle impact tracking, supply chain resilience, and material innovation, to support brand and converter partners seeking reliable, premium, and responsibly made substrates.
