Monadnock Paper Mills Introduces Renovo: A Sustainable Alternative to Plastic Gift Cards

February 24, 2025 News Releases, Printing, Paper & Packaging, Product Launches

Monadnock Paper Mills, Inc., the oldest continuously operating paper mill in the US and a leader in sustainable fiber-based solutions, is proud to introduce Renovo—a high-performance alternative to plastic gift cards. Renovo, Monadnock’s 30 pt. Envi Paper Card, is made from 100% post-consumer waste (PCW) and engineered to deliver the same durability, print quality, and functionality as traditional gift cards, but with a significantly lower environmental impact.

With over 6 billion plastic payment cards produced annually worldwide, the environmental impact is staggering – traditional gift cards alone generate 33,260 tons of carbon emissions each year. Renovo cuts that impact by 53% by providing brands with a curbside-recyclable, carbon-neutral alternative that aligns with growing consumer demand and corporate responsibility expectations.

“Renovo showcases our commitment to environmentally responsible solutions that make a real impact,” said Lisa Taylor, Vice President of Sales & Marketing at Monadnock Paper Mills.

“At Monadnock, we are committed to creating products that help our partners meet their environmental goals without compromising quality or performance, and this innovation exemplifies that effort.”

Renovo sets a new industry benchmark for sustainable gift, loyalty, and promotional cards. It offers the look and feel of plastic and is designed with a multi-platform coating to integrate seamlessly into existing print technologies. Designed for superior print fidelity, Renovo runs flawlessly on digital and offset presses, delivering sharp detail and vibrant color.

“Brands don’t have to choose between sustainability or performance – they can have both,” said Julie Brannen, Director of Sales and Sustainable Solutions at Monadnock Paper Mills.

Further reinforcing its industry leadership, Monadnock was recently recognized as the first paper mill to achieve Mastercard’s prestigious Card Eco-Certification (CEC) for Renovo, as well as its Envi Card Stock 28 pt. The certification process, which evaluates the environmental impact from raw material sourcing to end-of-life disposal, ensures products meet the highest standards of sustainability.
