Baldwin Technology unveils next-generation printing solutions at DRUPA 2024

Baldwin Technology is showcasing its newest breakthroughs in printing technology at DRUPA 2024, from May 28 to June 7 in Düsseldorf, Germany, Hall 16/Booth D20 & C21. Under the BW Converting (BWC) platform, Baldwin is revealing the new Unity LED™ system, QuadCure UV system, and the Defender® VIEW web viewer.

Baldwin’s product launch comes alongside BW Converting’s updated branding identity, uniting a portfolio of heavyweights that also includes Paper Converting Machine Company (PCMC) and Winkler+Dünnebier

(W+D), as well as Hudson-Sharp, STAX Technologies and Northern Engraving and Machine Company.

These advancements represent the company’s latest efforts to achieve more with less, delivering enhanced efficiency and productivity while reducing the need for significant investment. Ultra-Compact & Versatile LED Technology

Baldwin is introducing Unity™ LED, the company’s innovation in LED-UV curing technology designed for efficiency, flexibility, and significant cost savings. Applicable to narrow and wide web presses, central impression (CI), finishing equipment and sheetfed offset presses, Unity LED™ is engineered to maximize press performance with minimal power consumption, cutting down monthly expenses dramatically.

This advanced system reduces power usage by 60% over traditional UV curing methods. Unity LED™ boasts high-powered LEDs and innovative quartz optics, ensuring a consistent and complete cure at full press speeds. Unity LED™’s unique design allows for greater flexibility with the substrate’s position relative to the cure unit. Its ultra-compact design enables effortless integration into existing press setups. Unity’s modular design permits flexibility to switch between LED and conventional UV curing without the need for specialized tools. The system’s modular construction and compatibility with XP-Series LED lamp heads facilitate easy access for maintenance, with no tools required. With Unity LED™, printers can now enjoy unparalleled control over UV curing processes, achieving optimal results at any speed while unlocking substantial savings and environmental benefits.

Powerful & Efficient UV Curing

The QuadCure Unity UV system introduces a powerful advancement in conventional UV curing technology for sheetfed offset presses and web presses. This system is engineered to significantly reduce operational costs by requiring only one lamphead at the end of the press, following the coater unit. With its 320 W/cm (~800 W/in) capability, the QuadCure Unity UV system outperforms standard models, which typically offer around 240 W/cm (~600 W/in), ensuring that only a single lamphead is necessary where two or even three might have been the norm. This efficiency translates directly into substantial savings, making the QuadCure Unity UV a cost-effective solution for printers.

By implementing four reflectors into one compact system, the QuadCure maximizes UV output, providing an exceptionally efficient curing process for UV inks and coatings. This design not only enhances performance but also ensures reliability, drawing on a trusted foundation that has been computer-optimized for peak efficiency.

Optimizing User-Experience for Print Viewing and Inspection

The Defender® VIEW is designed for simplicity, intuitiveness, and readiness for future challenges, setting a new standard in user experience for print viewing and inspection. With its gesture-driven interface, high-resolution cameras, and optimized LED lighting, this system provides sharp, consistent imaging, seamlessly integrating with Baldwin’s Defender® 100% Inspection system for enhanced operational efficiency and quick problem resolution.

Leveraging the latest in UX design and technology, the system offers unparalleled user experience and imaging performance, providing live images at production speeds of up to 1000 meters per minute. The heart of Defender® VIEW’s innovation lies in its Sampled Inspection feature, utilizing Baldwin’s rich inspection history to deliver DeltaE Color Monitoring, Barcode Verification, and advanced defect detection capabilities.
